Please be sure to check the Band Calendar page for expectations regarding practice, online activities, and theory assignments. Those who are turning in assignments and participating in the activities, thank you very much! You are taking ownership of your learning and will gain much in our band class.
If you haven't yet turned in material, a further incentive is the Musical Mystery gift which the top three students (based on points accumulated on your tally sheets) will receive at the end of each school session. Our next prize will be totalled after February 20th, when your tally sheets are due. You can find the Tally Sheets on the website under "home", and "band forms". Please know that these must be signed by a parent to be valid! Musically yours, Ms. Karen All band students:
The order is in at Holland Meyer Music of the Feldstein Theory books. Please pick yours up as we will begin with assignments this week! Here's notes for clefs for beginning students. A cool review for others 2nd and 3rd year students: If you would like a more challenging (or more choices) for a solo besides pages 36/37 in the TE book, check out 8notes.com
Also: to be able to track your musicracer.com work, I will need your IP address of your computer for home and school. Please email these to [email protected] OR [email protected] Thanks! Have fun creating music this week. Ms. Karen GOOD MORNING!
I want to give you a heads up for the Sandy Feldstein Practical Theory books. Meyer Music in Holland is ordering some for us, so they are on backorder. I will let you know when they come in. In the meantime, no worries, I will not give assignments from this book until everyone has them. Also, I had 8th graders ask if they still need the "complete", or if they could just get volume one. After looking at volume 1 and 2, I still think the "complete" is best for 8th grade, too. We will definitely get well into the 2nd volume before June, and you will benefit from the savings of having to buy three books. Any questions, feel free to let me know! Karen Yonkers, director SO Excited to have our first day with the existing students. All six were eager to get back into playing! I did some preliminary assessment, we became aquainted, and I had a great time! I think the students did, too. There is still time to join us, so we would LOVE to have you. SEE BAND CALENDAR PAGE; scroll down for monthly calendar and daily/weekly assignments. SEE CONTACT PAGE for "contact information form" link, you can download, print and turn in. The forms are DUE Wednesday. There are also forms at the front desk. I have forms from Mackenzy H., Elizabeth H., Trina L., Rachel R., Chloe VW, and Lia W-G. Welcome to Innocademy Band! Director: I am your new director, Karen Yonkers. As I hope you have heard, we had a “fitting” with Meyer Music personnel on Wednesday. Many of your children had an opportunity to try flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone and saxophone. The students who have already had some experience on instruments are excited about starting again. I am excited to work with your children, both beginners and the older students! I love teaching music and am glad that Innocademy recognizes the global, leadership, and character building elements of music education. If you still have questions, or your child wasn’t able to participate Wednesday, we can give them a session today during the open house. Goals: In line with the Innocademy philosophy, my goals are to:
Class materials:
Class times and structure: see also calendar
I will have three half-hour lesson spots for those who would like private instruction for their children. These will be during school after the band time on Monday and Wednesday. Please let me know of your interest right away. To accommodate more students, there is a possibility of private lessons every other week. If there are several of one instrument desiring extra help, I could also arrange small group lessons (up to 4 only, to maintain individual help). Please indicate on your information form. The fee for these lessons go directly to Karen Yonkers and will be $18 a session, payable monthly. I am working on a website to communicate with students and parents regarding assignments, practice records, calendar, band information. http://bandinnocademy.weebly.com/ * Extras for instrumentalists: Flutes: will need two soft cleaning rags. Refer to this site for instrument care: http://www.wikihow.com/Clean-and-Maintain-Your-Flute Clarinet: will need reeds (beginners: VanDoren number 2, other students VanDoren number 3 reeds), a swab, cork grease. Refer to this site for instrument care: http://www.wikihow.com/Clean-and-Maintain-a-Clarinet Trumpets: will need valve oil and soft cloth. Also a rough rag (a hand towel works great) to put on the floor to absorb spit which comes from the spit valve while playing. Refer to this site for instrument care: http://www.wikihow.com/Clean-a-Trumpet (scroll down to part two: “caring for your instrument”, baths only need to be done every 6-8 weeks or so) Trombones: will need slide oil or cream, a soft rag for polishing and a rough rag (a hand towel or old t-shirt work great) to put on the floor to absorb spit which comes from the spit valve while playing.
