Dear Innocademy Families and friends: As of Jan 1, 2018, I will no longer be traveling to Zeeland Innocademy to give music lessons. I do want to invite you to consider lessons in my Grand Rapids home. My weeknights are full, but I do have openings on Saturdays from 12:30 pm until 4 pm. I am on the NE side, not far off 196 highway. It is about 30 minute drive from Innocademy. I will be starting spring session the first week of January, and the recital will be June 2. Looking ahead: I will also offer a summer session with a recital in August. I have a piano, guitar, multiple wind instruments, and percussion available to teach. Send me an email: [email protected] You may also check out my website: KarenYonkersMusic.weebly.com Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Joyful Kwanzaa, and Happy New Year Ms. Karen Yonkers Instrumental Music at Innocademy Zeeland 2017-2018
A note from Karen Yonkers: I am proud of how much our small band group has progressed this past school year. Along with proficiency on their instruments, the students have shown advancing understanding of playing as an ensemble, listening to the group sound, and playing with sensitivity. Due to low band numbers and a reallocation of funds for specials/electives, we are moving to a program similar to what Ms. Jill Zuber offers through her Alabanza piano lessons next year. I would like to continue to assist young instrumentalists providing individual (and perhaps sectional) lessons with instrumental students for limited time slots, with fees paid by any students' who are interested. I am also willing to travel to Innocademy Zeeland for your convenience, or even your homes at select times. I propose half hour lessons on Tuesday mornings before school, overlapping with the first hour of classes or so (~ 8 am - 11 am). Additionally, I would be available at school and after on Thursdays. (~1 pm - 3:30 pm) I would also have a limited availability Thursdays in your local Zeeland homes 4-8 pm. Lessons would be ½ hour long, once a week. Half hour lessons are $18. I do have sibling discount as well. We can also discuss fundraisers to help pay for music lessons. Please see my website: http://karenyonkersmusic.weebly.com for other details about lessons. [email protected] or [email protected] (616) 648-3011 Wednesday is our last day. Class is 8 am - 9 am. We are having a party: everyone is to bring a "breakfast" item, and we will play games. No instruments needed. Ideas: pop tarts, toaster waffles, hard boil eggs, fruit, juice, milk, donuts, etc. (I'll bring a toaster, games, plastic silverware, plates, napkins and cups) ~Ms. Karen Hello Innocademy Band-o's! I'm looking forward to seeing you all on Monday, June 5th! Plan to meet at 7:45 am. We will be working on Hall of the Mountain King, by Grieg and our method books, along with setting goals for next fall. I found an interesting series on You Tube about the physics of creating music with the different instrument families and thought of you all. I put them here for your viewing pleasure! Even though we are a band, and don't have string instruments, the physics here does apply to our instruments. Besides, these are entertaining along with educational! :D See you Monday!
Ms. Karen I hope you are enjoying this wonderful weather for Memorial Day and our week vacation!
Yes, we meet through June. We will be goal setting for next year, working on a piece to play at assembly next fall and continuing in the method book. Same time: MW at 7:45 am. (We will be changing to after school classes in August. More information on that later.) Ms. Karen Nice job, Innocademy Band!
You sounded wonderful last night. I had several comments about the mature sound you were producing. LOVE IT! And it was very cool for me to see and hear about the other things you all do at Innocademy: stop motion, CR trip, and the bios you created. Enjoy your vacation, and I have some neat plans for the end of the year! For those of you going on the June trip, have a safe, fun time. You all are the BEST! Ms. Karen TALLY SHEETS DUE MONDAY 22ND!
